A new roading system in Taupo township means we can now enjoy the lakefront without the worry of cars. Access is still possible to the Sail barbary at the Taupo Boat Harbour via Redoubt St, Story Place or Ferry Road. We are across the road from the Stir Café. Look for the green/white blade flag.
Like most small NZ towns, State Highway 1 carved its way through the Taupo town and along the lakefront. It was not ideal. With a huge influx of people to the region every Summer it became a little crazy for both cars and pedestrians.
The local Council and Waka Kotahi (NZTA) took the first step to address these issues with the construction of the East Taupō Arterial (ETA). It redirected the heavy regional traffic to the east of the town and freed up Council to manage the local roading network.
So what does this mean for us at Sail Barbary? Once the new roading is finished it should not affect us at all. You can still access the Taupo Boat Harbour, the river mouth of the mighty Waikato river via three access points Redoubt Street, Story Place and Ferry Road.
If you're coming into town from the either the North or South try using the new routes and life will be much easier. If you go the same way you always have, the chances are high you will be stuck in traffic using a lot of patience :) Refer to the photos the changes will be good for everyone.
Thanks TDC for information and photos.
