At Sail Barbary, your safety is always our top priority. Whether you're joining us for a relaxing sail to the Māori rock carvings or enjoying a swim stop in summer, we're fully equipped to keep you safe and confident on the water.
Are life jackets provided?
Yes. Life jackets are available for every passenger, in a full range of sizes from small children to larger adults. You don't need to bring your own.
Life jackets on board our electric yacht
Every Lake Taupō cruise starts with a thorough safety briefing before we leave the harbour. During the briefing:

Our crew can help you fit one at any time
Sizing is based on weight, not age, so everyone gets a proper, safe fit.
When life jackets are worn
Our experienced skipper decides when life jackets should be worn, based on the current weather, the forecast and how comfortable passengers are. Life jackets may be:
Issued to everyone before departure, if conditions call for it
Offered to anyone who asks for one, at any time
Provided during swim stops, especially for guests who are less confident in the water
If you'd feel more relaxed wearing one for the whole cruise, just ask. That's always fine.
Life jackets for children
We carry life jackets in children's sizes, fitted by weight. Parents look after their children on board, and children can swim during the summer swim stop with a designated adult in the water with them.
Other safety equipment within reach
As well as life jackets, a life ring is kept within one metre of the skipper at all times. That means an immediate response if anyone needs help in the water, whether we're sailing or stopped for a swim.
