Meet Our Crew

Pure Kiwi expertise – Pure Kiwi experience

Our crew of accomplished captains, storytellers, and guides all come from right here in New Zealand. Real homegrown Kiwis with a real passion for sharing our culture, history, and enthusiasm for Lake Taupō with our guests… creating truly authentic Kiwi moments and experiences.

As Kiwis, we are very proud of our heritage and act to make sure that the culture and land are preserved so that every visitor gets to see the very best that New Zealand has to offer. We are kaitiaki, guardians of this very special place that we call home.

We combine this Kiwi passion and sustainable ethos with extensive sailing experience and our love for the craft to provide truly unique moments for our guests.

Peter

Pete started his apprenticeship on the water at Lake Taupo in 1968. Enjoying and becoming very proficient in water skiing, windsurfing, rowing and all forms of trout fishing. He can talk fishing all day!

This long association on the water provides knowledge of the various conditions on the large expanse of water (616kms) at Lake Taupo and provides Peter with the ideal background for optimizing your sailing experience and making it safe.

Being a fully qualified skipper has enhanced his enjoyment – "we now take out customers and friends on the water."

Pete has a long and varied business background in marketing and property including owning, operating and developing further the Lake Taupo Hole in One Challenge for nearly 10 years.

"Sailing, people, eco-tourism, sustainability and having fun with others is what keeps me on the water."

Kerry

Sailing all his adult life, with many years spent cruising and competitively racing in the Hauraki Golf, Kerry has found his calling working on Lake Taupo. A born and bred kiwi, Kerry spent many years sailing around the world – adventure racing to Fiji, captaining private yachts in the Mediterranean Sea for 5 years, before taking that vessel across the Atlantic to the Caribbean, Bahamas, then touring the eastern seaboard of the United States, as well as 3 years of captaining an expedition vessel that extensively cruised New Zealand, Fiji, New Caledonia and the eastern seaboard of Australia. Kerry and his wife have also both volunteered on the race committee for both Louis Vuitton cups in Auckland. Kerry is so passionate about sailing he would rather watch a yacht race than a Rugby Game!

Best sailing moments:

  • Sailing into Grand harbour in Malta for the first time
  • Admiring the wildlife on Mediterranean beaches
  • Sailing into New York Harbour and through the East River to Long Island Sound
  • Cruising Fiordland, New Zealand
  • Sailing in a hurricane on my first Atlantic crossing
  • Any day sailing on Lake Taupo
  • Kerry is now working part-time and enjoying semi-retirement

Chris

Chris is a character.

Foremost a sailor with extensive off-shore racing experience.

Chris always has an often amusing answer for most situations and more often than not he is right if it involves any math. He comes from a long teaching background where he was a secondary school deputy principal and head of the Maths Dept.

Chris's interests include his family (four kids), diving, sailing, fishing, hunter gathering and sustainability.
